All It Took

A Motivational Bullying Poem By Kashika Bharol When I was little and I had my two front teeth sticking out And I was too young to get braces Kids laughed and made fun of me Said I was a beaver and a walrus and called me buck-toothed Then by then, little by little, I was bullied. All it took was one little kid messin' around To a whole group teasing. I wasn't alone Kids all around face this every day The number 160,000 kids afraid to go to school tomorrow because of this meanness And even more than that Are not brave enough to tell anyone Because they're afraid Afraid of being titled as a tattle-tale, a snitch... Anything else people were called in elementary school School's for learning, growing, laughing, playing Not for bullying, teasing, taunting, demeaning But some don't get that Sure, some fall, but they get back up. The bullies won't stop Not with one person Not with two But with three, four, five... a big group There...

Top 5: Back to School Must-Haves

I haven't written for a while now because of my recent vacation to India(!) So, I would like to start off the first post since July, with a Back-to-School list. WARNING!!! ONLY USE THESE PRODUCTS IF YOUR SCHOOL/TEACHER ALLOWS THEM!!! WARNING!!! 1.   Pencil Pouch:  I have always liked pencil pouches and have admired the way they can fit a lot of items and yet are still more compact than pencil boxes. 2.  Mechanical Pencils: I use these all the time because of how sharp they are all of the time. If they get dull, you can always break off some of the lead and have it sharp and pointy again, instead of sharpening it again and again and again. These are also stylish and come in a multiple amount of colors. 3. Kneaded Erasers: These are good to have because they can erase small things and get into tight and small spaces. If you are an artist, these are must-haves. 4. Sharpies:  These are awesome. They are stylish, don't  bleed through onto the other side of ...

Top 5: Things To Do Over the Summer! [2014 Edition]

School's out, summer's in! We all couldn't wait to enjoy the summertime when school was approaching its end. However, after summer is here, many people have nothing to do after vacation. Well, here's a list of things to do to become boredom-free! 1) Make a lemonade stand! Gather some friends, grab some lemons, sugar, and ice, put them in a blender, and make some freshly squeezed, homemade lemonade! Sell it for 25- 50 cents a cup. 2) Explore your backyard. Play "Adventure" with your siblings, and uncover the mystical things about your backyard. Also, (with your parents' permission) a fun thing to play is "Restaurant" in the backyard. Using mud, make chocolate or mudpies. If you have a certain fruit plant such as a berry bush or an apple tree, use some of those fruits to play with and really eat! (Like I previously said, this is all only with your parents' consent. 3)  Read a good book and enter a summer reading contest. Usually, they ha...

Do's and Don'ts For Your Airplane Ride

Are you traveling in an airplane over the summer? Well, here are some do's and don't's to stay healthy and not-bored during the journey to your destination. DON'T: 1) Don't keep on looking at the map to see how much longer until you reach the airport. This will take the fun out of your trip, and will make you extra-bored. You can even make a plan, such as you will look at the map every two hours, or something similar. 2) Don't watch the TV they give in the airplane all day . Bring something else with you, such as an MP3 to listen to music, a book or Kindle to read from, or a small card game like Go Fish. Bring something constructive. 3) Don't stay hungry or thirsty. If you need water, ask the flight attendant for some. Usually, in your seat they give a button which you can press if you need the flight attendant to come to you.   DO: 1)  Sleep. You're going to be tired, especially if you woke up early in the morning to catch your flight. If you...

Top 5: Fourth of July DIY Crafts!

1) Red, White, and Blue Headband Take a piece of paper and wrap it around your head so it goes around comfortably. Secure with a piece of tape. Take equal strips of red tissue paper, blue tissue paper, and white tissue paper, the same length as your piece of paper. Tape or glue the tissue paper onto your white paper in order: red, white, blue. Done! 2) American Abstract Take a canvas, a blowdryer (electric hairdryer), and some crayons of the colors red, white, and blue (pick different shades). Cover your workspace with newspaper, so it won't get dirty. Tape the crayons in order of color to the top of the canvas. (as in light blue, dark blue, white, light red, dark red) Use the blowdryer to blow near the crayons, in the direction you want the colored wax to go. Since the crayon is made of wax, it will melt into a liquid with all of the heat and splatter onto the canvas, creating an abstract. After you are done, remove the crayons right away and let the painting dry. After it ha...

Rumpelstiltskin Book Review

Title: Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales Author: The Brothers Grimm Publisher: Canterbury Classics Date of Publication: 2011 Genre: Fairy Tale 1. Culture: Rumpelstiltskin originates in Germany. Rumpelstiltskin is a mysterious, magical little man, who helps a young daughter of a miller spin straw into gold when she is forced to by a King. Many German fairy tales and folk tales often include a supernatural being doing mystical things. 2. Summary: Once there was a poor miller who happened to be speaking to the king. In order to make himself appear important, the miller bragged to the king that he had a daughter who could spin straw into gold. Astonished by this mystical ability, he ordered the miller to bring his daughter to the castle. His daughter was brought into a room full of straw and was to spin all of it into gold by dawn or die. Not knowing what to do, the poor girl started to weep. A midget appeared in the room. He told her that he could spin the straw into gold ...

How to Make a Chocolate Sugar Hand Scrub

Ingredients: sugar milk chocolate syrup vanilla extract Directions: Add 3 tbsp sugar to a bowl. Add 1 tbsp milk and mix the two together. Add in 2 tbsp sugar and mix. Add in some chocolate syrup, any amount you want. I like to put in 1-2 tablespoons, and then if it is too wet, I add in more sugar. Add in about 1/2 tsp or less of vanilla extract and mix. Your scrub should have a rough consistency, but it should be soft enough to go on your hand without hurting it. :)

She will especially like it because its the love that counts. 2) Chocolate:  I like to give this gift, because: who doesn't like chocolate??? Plus, it is easy to carry and is a very good gift. Cesar Chavez: The Fight for Justice

Cesar Estrada Chavez was an activist who was born on March 31, 1927 near Yuma, Arizona in his family's small home in the North Gila River Valley. He was the second of five children, and was named after his grandfather, Cesario. Chavez was born to parents who taught him important ideas about hard work, the importance of education, and respect. As a young boy, Chavez worked on his familyā€™s farm feeding and watering the animals, collecting eggs, and bringing water to the house. At age 11, Chavez' family lost their home during the Great Depression, causing him and his family to become migrant farm workers. Throughout his youth and into his adulthood, Chavez traveled around California working in the fields, orchards, and vineyards. This was where he was exposed to the true injustices and hardships of a farm worker's life. Chavez joined the U.S. Navy in 1946, in the aftermath of World War II, and served in the Western Pacific. He returned from the service in 1948 to marr...

How to Make a Super Easy Chocolate Cake

Ingredients: 1 tbsp butter 2 cup sugar 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup cocoa powder 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 large eggs (I use Egg Replacer, since I can't eat eggs. You can find this product at Whole Foods Market. Here is the link to it:  http://www.ener-g.com/egg-replacer.html  ) 1 cup 2% milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil (olive oil also works) 1 cup warm water 2 tsp vanilla extract Directions: In a mixing bowl, mix together all of your ingredients, putting them in one by one. (Start with your butter and work your way down the ingredients list above.) After mixing together until a nice consistency appears, take a cake pan (I use a 9" pan) and grease it with butter, shortening, or cooking/baking spray, so the cake doesn't stick. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Because every oven is different, your cake may bake at a different time than mine.  Keep your eye on the cake and as soon as the cake appears to have ri...

My Life (so far!) As a Poem

In December of 2001, Into the world, I had come. Big brown eyes And curly hair, A lot did I look like a bear. When I turned 1, I must admit, I fell asleep when the cake had to be bit. But with any luck, they woke me up, And had me cut the cake, yup! When I was 5, I went to school, Surprisingly it turned out really cool! New things I learned, new friends I made, And when the teacher said, I obeyed. In first grade, did I move, Three different schools, Was I in solitude? No, not at all! It was quite fine, For I had friends and family that were all mine. When I turned six, My birthday party did I pick. Chuck E. Cheese's was my choice, Mostly because the games were nice. And so was the food, But the vegetables? NO! Four years of my life, I did spend, [Of fourth grade] In a school, until the end. How tired was I, although moving was a blast, But to my relief, this move was the last. The last year of Elementary School, Was really sad, but kind of cool! ...

Texting: The Main Problem of Our Society

Do you text? Do you use words like ROFL , LOL , and alright while texting? Many believe that texting is ruining our development of the English language. ( Alright is not even a word, it is actually all right .) Because they are used to writing abbreviations in texts, many people are using words like a lright in their writing. Whom does this affect the most? Students. Students who are using these words to text with might get used to writing their essays in this "text language". This could land the students with bad grades. What's the solution? You can text as much as you want, but you have to keep the abbreviations under control. You shouldn't say things like: "Srry can't come 2nite", when you have the time to write out: "Sorry, I can't come tonight". Some Abbreviations in Text Language  LOL= laugh out loud ROFL= rolling on the floor laughing BRB= be right back BFF= best friend forever 24/7= all the time TMI= too much information...

Top 5: Favorite Books

Here is a list of my top 5 most favorite books! I love to read, so I have many favorites. (not in any specific order) 1. Divergent  by Veronica Roth: This is one of my most favorite books considering I have just finished reading it recently and am VERY interested in sci-fi stories. My favorite character is Four, or Tobias. I would most definitely say that this qualifies for my top three most favorite books ever. (I even took a quiz and it came out to be that if I lived in that dystopian world, I would be Divergent! I could be Erudite, Amity, Abnegation, or Dauntless. However, I am not very brave, so I wouldn't pick Dauntless. I would rather pick Erudite or Amity over Abnegation, because Abnegation sounds like a pretty boring life to me.) 2. White Dolphin  by Gill Lewis: I am currently reading this book, and I appreciate it a lot! I have just started yesterday and am on Chapter 3 so far. I love how this story takes place on a shore next to the ocean, because I really li...

This is a very education and fun app that I would highly recommend. 2) Notability: This is a great note-taking app in which you can just doodle for fun or take notes or even write stories on! It works great with a stylus or with just your finger. 3) Quick Math: This has to be my most favorite app ever! Made for adults and children alike, this is a great app which offers a rich learning experience. You have a certain amount of math problems to solve and you may take your time. It tracks your progress in the form of a chart as you go on, telling you if you are improving or not. There are four different levels- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Extreme. 4) Draw Something: This is a drawing game you can play ...

I Love You... Because all you do, You do with love. You are so special, You're a gift from above. And with all my heart I want to say, I love you, Mom, Happy Mother's Day!

The Very Hungry Penguin By Kashika Bharol

One day, a little penguin hatched out of an egg. Hungry, it looked up at its mother. "Mama, I'm hungry," it said. Its mother nodded and said,"Yes, you must be. I will fetch you some fish." And off she went. The little penguin sat and waited for what seemed like forever. "I am really hungry. I don't know when Mother will be back. I must get food for myself." And off the little penguin went. He waddled and waddled, until he reached a land with blue water. Across the water, there was an iceberg. A seal sat on the iceberg, looking at the little penguin. "Hiya, little penguin! What brings you here today?" the seal said. "I'm really hungry, and I was looking for something to eat. What's this blue water called?" the penguin asked. "It's called the ocean. It's where little fishes and giant sharks live." the seal said. "Ooh! Fishes! Mama went to get some for me, but she hasn't returned yet. Proba...
