The Very Hungry Penguin By Kashika Bharol

     One day, a little penguin hatched out of an egg. Hungry, it looked up at its mother. "Mama, I'm hungry," it said. Its mother nodded and said,"Yes, you must be. I will fetch you some fish." And off she went. The little penguin sat and waited for what seemed like forever. "I am really hungry. I don't know when Mother will be back. I must get food for myself." And off the little penguin went. He waddled and waddled, until he reached a land with blue water. Across the water, there was an iceberg. A seal sat on the iceberg, looking at the little penguin. "Hiya, little penguin! What brings you here today?" the seal said. "I'm really hungry, and I was looking for something to eat. What's this blue water called?" the penguin asked. "It's called the ocean. It's where little fishes and giant sharks live." the seal said. "Ooh! Fishes! Mama went to get some for me, but she hasn't returned yet. Probably she didn't catch one yet. Perhaps I could get one by myself!" The seal nodded. The hungry little penguin put his arms over his head, stood on his tippy-toes, and dove into the water. It was very scenic; little schools of fish swam together, colorful starfish were laying on coral reefs, and a purple octopus was sleeping on a rock. The penguin swam over to the school of fish, but they were too fast. "Oh no! NOW how am I going to get some food?" he said. He swam over to the starfish, and said, "Will you help me get some food? I tried to get one of the fish, but they were just too fast!" The starfish slowly looked at him, and laughed. "Ha ha! If you want to get a fish, you have to do more that just swim... you have to hunt!" And with that, the starfish turned over and went to sleep. The whole day, the penguin kept chasing the fish, but they were all too fast. "Now I'm REALLY hungry! But how do I get some food? I better go home... it's getting very dark." The little penguin jumped out of the ocean, and went back to his igloo, where his mother was cooking a fish. "Yippee! Mom, thank you so much for bringing me a fish!" The little penguin told his mom about his journey in the ocean, while he ate his delicious supper.
