The Cookie Curse

(This is a twist in the story of Disney's Aladdin, written from the genie's perspective for a school project.) Written by: Kashika Bharol     A long time ago I was in a Chinese restaurant in Arabia eating my white rice. The waitress came up to me and gave me a fortune cookie.  I cracked the fortune cookie, which contained a note which was more like a message than a fortune. It said, "You will become a genie”. I regarded it as just a silly note. But when I got home and started to light the golden lamp my mother gave me for my birthday, Whoosh! I'm stuck in a lamp. So I practiced and practiced being a genie and granting wishes, waiting for someone to rub my lamp. Little did I know, that it would take hundreds of thousands of years.     So it was a regular day, just like any other, and then I heard a rumble. Much like the one my stomach makes when I'm hungry, but louder. Once the rumbling stopped, the footsteps started. Then those s...

All It Took

A Motivational Bullying Poem By Kashika Bharol When I was little and I had my two front teeth sticking out And I was too young to get braces Kids laughed and made fun of me Said I was a beaver and a walrus and called me buck-toothed Then by then, little by little, I was bullied. All it took was one little kid messin' around To a whole group teasing. I wasn't alone Kids all around face this every day The number 160,000 kids afraid to go to school tomorrow because of this meanness And even more than that Are not brave enough to tell anyone Because they're afraid Afraid of being titled as a tattle-tale, a snitch... Anything else people were called in elementary school School's for learning, growing, laughing, playing Not for bullying, teasing, taunting, demeaning But some don't get that Sure, some fall, but they get back up. The bullies won't stop Not with one person Not with two But with three, four, five... a big group There...

The Very Hungry Penguin By Kashika Bharol

One day, a little penguin hatched out of an egg. Hungry, it looked up at its mother. "Mama, I'm hungry," it said. Its mother nodded and said,"Yes, you must be. I will fetch you some fish." And off she went. The little penguin sat and waited for what seemed like forever. "I am really hungry. I don't know when Mother will be back. I must get food for myself." And off the little penguin went. He waddled and waddled, until he reached a land with blue water. Across the water, there was an iceberg. A seal sat on the iceberg, looking at the little penguin. "Hiya, little penguin! What brings you here today?" the seal said. "I'm really hungry, and I was looking for something to eat. What's this blue water called?" the penguin asked. "It's called the ocean. It's where little fishes and giant sharks live." the seal said. "Ooh! Fishes! Mama went to get some for me, but she hasn't returned yet. Proba...

Lost Lunch Boxes.

(This story of mine won first prize in Hirsch Elementary) Chapter 1 Theft of lunch boxes The teacher and students in room 14 were worried and concerned. It started a few days back when Christy told her teacher about not having lunch that day. She told the teacher, “Mrs Alexander, I can't concentrate on my test. I did not have my lunch today. I could not find my lunch box. I don't know if somebody stole it or if my mom forgot to put it in my backpack.” “Probably your mom forgot to pack it”, said Mrs Alexander. Next day three more students complained about missing lunch boxes. Christy too confirmed that her mom hadn't forgotten to pack her lunch the previous day. Everybody started discussing about missing lunch boxes. Teacher said, “Tomorrow everybody write their names on their lunch boxes and give them to me in the morning. I shall put them on the top shelf so that the thief does not know where they are and if thief is a kid within the school, ...
