How to Survive Freshman Year of High School: Goal-Setting

I am going to be a senior in high school this year, and thought I'd start a series of short posts where I give advice for current/future high school students. Today's post is about practicing goal-setting to be successful! One of the most beneficial things you can do to help yourself succeed both academically and socially in all four years of high school, is to create goals. From my experiences of setting goals and deadlines for myself, I have concluded that the most primary formula for success by goal-setting, is: Main Focuses + Fixed Focuses + Hard Work = Academic and Social Enrichment This is an extremely versatile formula that will help you in all areas of high school life. Main focuses are long-term goals, and are generally tasks which you want to accomplish over the course of the year to come. An example of a main focus could be getting 95% or above in all classes. Fixed focuses are short-term goals; they are specific tasks which you aim to complete in the n...

Animals Rights: The Fight for Justice

A Research Paper Written by Kashika Bharol _____ Human interaction with animals is an important aspect of living in modern society. However, we have placed a stratification amongst animals, favoring only those with which we connect, and ignoring those which are not well treated and respected. Just as humans, animals require humane treatment and affection, and do not deserve to be exploited, neglected, abused, or ignored. To defend basic privileges, animals must have a Bill of Rights to guarantee their welfare. Humans, as beings with higher-level abilities of function, have a duty of respecting and protecting those who cannot advocate for themselves. Numerous arguments and instances support this philosophy. _____ Animals undergo feelings of pain, just as humans do. However, due to common belief in the theory that animals are mere objects, there has been an increase of substantial torture and death in animals- especially through scientific experimentation. Our Poisoned Hearts: The American Diet and Heart Disease

A Research Paper Written by Kashika Bharol In grocery stores, snacks such as cheetos cost less than a dollar per packet, while healthy apples sell at a steep rate of $4.50 per pound (Yurcaba). The United States population’s ever growing preference for cheap, malnourishing food meant to simply fill stomachs rather than to provide nutrition has taken a toll on the health of the public. The high amounts of unhealthy fats present in foods consumed everyday in the traditional American diet have resulted in heart disease becoming the leading cause of death in the US. Encouraging the public to consume healthier food, providing them with better options for their bodies, and increasing FDA regulation of food would help to lower the occurrence of deaths from heart disease in the US. America’s food problems could lead to an even higher increase in serious disease for the vast population of the country; therefore, the problems need to be addressed before they get out of hand. In the...

11 Things I Learned by 11th Grade

1) Your parents are the best friends you'll ever have. 2) It's important to stay organized in everything you do. 3) Even though everyone may not always be respectful to you, it's important that you're always kind to all. 4) Your figure won't always look like the girls in the magazines and movies, and, that's okay. 5) Don't pay heed to those who judge you. They're not living your life; you are. 6) You will always have room for improvement. 7) Caring for yourself is important. 8) Be more decisive. Know what you want and go with your gut. 9) It is important to set small goals. 10) Don't be too afraid to ask for help. And one cliche phrase which I have now understood the value of... 11) Hard work pays off. Like, seriously.

Top 5: Ways to Study!

With the next semester starting up, it's a good idea to start studying all you can. However, you want to retain that information at the same time. Here are some tips and tricks to study effectively and efficiently. 1) Use Quizlet. Say you have a HUGE test coming up, and you waited until the last minute to start studying. Have no fear, Quizlet is here! Go through your notes and highlight any concepts you don't understand fully. Then, go onto Quizlet and create online flashcards to help you quiz yourself on the information repeatedly until you understand it. The good thing is that there are multiple ways you can study, too. 2) Rewrite Your Notes. When you have to study a sheet of paper for hours, it helps if it looks pretty. Rewriting notes not only aids in making your notes neater, but the brain connects good feelings with things that look aesthetically-pleasing. If your notes are nicer in appearance, then you would want to look at them and study them more. Rewritin...

Top 5: Cliche's of Indian TV Shows

1. Saas v. Bahu Drama. (Mother-in-Law vs. Daughter-in-Law Drama) This is the greatest common factor of almost every single Indian drama serial known to man. The serial writers just cannot resist the urge to throw in some saas v. bahu drama! This does, however, get very annoying because it's the same plot repeated. But people (including myself) continue to pile up various serials with the same storyline on their plates. 2. Dreams. This seems like an ordinary thing, right? Well, NOOOO. Ok, so just imagine this: There is a heart-wrenching drama track going on in the show, and suddenly, in one of the episodes, the main character's problems get solved and everything ends happily ever after. You are relieved and extremely delighted, when suddenly the character wakes up. Turns out, it was a dream! None of it actually happened, and you are facepalming yourself for falling into the director's trap. 3. Memory Loss. It seems like anyone can have amnesia these days- ESPECIALLY ...
